Demand Response/Load Management Programs Outlook: Survey Findings

Undertaken during the first part of 2007, this study measures the usage of Demand Response (DR) programs.In electricity grids, demand response (DR) refers to mechanisms to manage the demand from customers in response to supply conditions, for example, having electricity customers reduce consumption at critical times or in response to market prices.
This study uncovered the following:
- There are two (2) major demands for increased Commercial & Industrial (C&I) Participation in Demand Response programs
- In key states, PUCs, utilities and ISO/RTO Organizations are pushing for greater C&I participation
- Cooperatives are strongly encouraging residential participation
- Total number of installed EMS at industrial and commercial sites is estimated at about 20,000-25,000 installations.
